What do I need to get started?
Just the free app. To automate watering you'll need an Apple Home-compatible water valve and a soil moisture sensor. Want to explore first? Turn on demo mode in the app to try every feature with no hardware at all.
Is Verde available on Android?
The Verde app is on iPhone today, and an Android version is coming soon — email us to join the tester list. Your hardware isn't tied to Apple either: Verde works with valves and sensors that support Apple Home, Google Home, Matter, or Home Assistant.
Can I use Verde when I'm away from home?
Verde works on your home Wi-Fi, so you monitor sensors and control watering while you're on your local network — that's what keeps your data private, with no cloud. Your garden doesn't need you there, though: schedules, moisture targets and rain-skip keep running automatically while you're away. Live access from outside your network isn't available yet — it's on the roadmap via Matter, which will let control route securely through your smart-home hub when you're off the LAN.
Do I need to build or wire any electronics?
No — there's no soldering, coding, or custom hardware. Verde works with off-the-shelf smart valves and soil sensors that support Apple Home or Matter, and you set everything up in the app. Our upcoming VerdeSensor is solar-powered and Matter-native, so there's no hub and no wiring.
My valve or sensor isn't appearing
Make sure the device is set up in the Apple Home app first — Verde discovers devices through Apple Home. In Verde, tap + → Add Other Devices. For Home Assistant, enter your server URL and access token in Settings.
How does the AI plant identifier work?
Point the camera at a plant and Verde identifies it, flags likely weeds, and sets watering targets for the species. It can run on-device, or use your own Claude, OpenAI, or Gemini API key — your choice in Settings. Results are informational; treasure your prize roses accordingly.
Why did Verde skip a scheduled watering?
Rain-skip was probably active: when the forecast shows enough rain coming, Verde skips watering so nature does the job. You can adjust or disable this per device.
Where is my data stored?
On your device. Verde has no accounts and no cloud — plant photos, sensor history, and API keys never touch our servers. See the Privacy Policy.
When is VerdeSensor coming?
